I figured this thread would attract alot of chuck fans such as myself, as many of you may know chuck taylor has been bought by nike and i feel that my love of the shoe has vanished because of this. ALAS there is hope, there is a new shoe company who produce a "chuck like sneaker" in a friendly factory. Blackspot sneakers are here.

check it out, its very much the anti-corporation and maybe if all the craftster chuck lovers go for blackspots we can help a little bit of everybody.  Kiss

sorry i know its a bit off topic but i couldnt help myself.

laxeagle3--your shirt came out perfectly! I thought it was a picture of sneakers at first, too.

Christinanne, thank you for posting the link to the Blackspot sneakers!

I don't know how much converse chucks are going for anymore, but the Blackspots are about $60. I hope everyone checks out that website. Just like Christinanne said, Nike owns Converse now, so they might as well have the swish on them for all consumer reasons. How much does Nike pay its workers again? Chucks aren't indie at all anymore. It's like when the big record companies make up independent labels and sign bands to that--its only to trick kids into thinking they are listening to something that isnt mainstream. When the truth is....
Anyways, the Blackspot is the start of a very political and revolutionary way of looking at consumerism. We have to be careful about who and what we're giving our money to, and for those of us that like to DIY, that isnt often. (On that note, Buy Nothing Day is coming up, November 26th!) Check out the magazine AdBusters for more. www.adbusters.org

Christina has a point there, both to correct me that real indie rockers don't have shoes and that Nike bought out Converse. I've found another place to get your Sweatshop-free shoes, http://www.nosweatapparel.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=NSS. $47 for high-tops and 42 for regular.

Yay for conscious buyers!

Meow Wont Purr, thanks for explaining the corporate principle behind blackspot.  I think the las pair of converse i bought were forty bucks. Now i love my orange high top shoes as much as everyone else but 40 bucks for a shoe that falls apart, and was produced in a sweatshop where the workers are paid enough to stagnate in poverty. 60 is obviously a larger number than forty but lets look at the blackspot real quick.

Vegan
Made of organic hemp
Biodegradeable sole
NOT NIKE

The adbusters website has a lot more about the shoe under the "behind the shoe" link.

So really, youre probably getting a better quality shoe, made in a great working envoronment by a great company.

ANY WAY GREAT SHIRT laxeagle3. it really does look like shoes sitting on the shirt, i was wondering, whats it look like when you wear it, does it still look like a pair of shoes on the shiert?

yes, someone else out there who can't stand the fact that chucks have become so corporate and commercial (owned by nike). i preordered my blackspots in august.. it's great cause not only are they an independant company branching from adbusters, but the shoes are 100% organic hemp and vegan rubber, if that means anything to the rest of you.  they're made for about 36 dollars each, and sold for only about 45. (canadian)  nike chucks are made for about 4.50 and sold for however much it is.. i haven't even bothered to look into it.. i think it's about $60?   but yeah. to all of those who care where your clothes come from, i encourage you to check out that site. (offtopic, but whatever)

Uh... I don't know if this is too forthcoming, but are you going to post the stencil for it? I totally love it :-)
Do you wear your actual chucks while wearing the tee?
