i originally was gonna make three very different cards, with different kinds of wings, and totally different styles, but i decided i wanted the cards to go together, so i ended up using the same basic colours in each, and stuck with the same kind of style. i just started making ATCs a a little while ago, and i've completely gotten addicted!

okay, so hinder is decidedly not goth.... but i have an ex who WAS goth, and the lyrics to the hinder song "lips of an angel" always remind me of him. (lyrics are here - http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/hinder/lipsofanangel.html)

fun black burlap textured paper, little angel wings, red paper lips and dymo words. i love dymo.

fallen angel

i'd wanted to do lino carving for the wings and print onto vellum, but i ran out of time, so they're drawn onto the vellum instead. i actually really like it this way, though i still want to do the wing carvings another time. when the wings open up, you can see the photo of a corset piercing underneath. the photo is glued onto red backing, and the wings are sandwhiched between the two. i pierced the card and threaded super thin red cording through the holes, just to add a bit of colour. i love corset piercings, though i'm not sure i'd ever do one, cause the scars from the surface piercings might not be worth it (especially when they're done incorrectly, like in this photo!). and my tattoo would kind of mess up the visual anyway. but i love the way they look.

(oh, the black paper is just there to provide contrast, so that you can see the wings better. it's not actually attached! and the wings are drawn with black ink, but for some reason, one side of the wings almost looks brown in the photo.... it's not though!)

and my favourite, all fabric based. i LOVE bat wings, i made myself the best pair one year for halloween.

close up of the heart

it IS even, it just doesn't look like it, i think i need to add a thicker backing so that it lies flatter.

the heart is upholstery vinyl cut into pieces and then stitched back together (though you can't really tell, so i probably shouldn't have bothered) with a big fat zigzag and then i added more random stitching to make it look bruised and battered. i sewed it onto a piece of slick black snakeskin clothing weight vinyl, which is sewn onto a piece of interfacing.

the wings are made of a black sheer netting fabric that has cool crinkles in it. i cut out the pieces and laid them on a piece of looseleaf paper and then sewed the ribbons into place, the paper gave it enough structure that it didn't twist while i sewed the skinny ribbon. then i ripped the paper off and sandwiched the ends of the wings between the heart and the backing when i sewed the heart on.

EDIT: here's the pic of all three together!

Those are cool cards, I like that you blended different mediums and subjects, but kept the same color scheme.  Great work!

Craft-Dame, I am also a lover of DYMO as many on this board can attest to- it is an awesome tool to have. Mine is from the 1970's. Fallen Angel is my fave of your three- although they are all awesome- I just love how you did the corsetting on the image, very provocative!

thanks everyone! i think these are my favourite ATCs so far... i'm so happy with them! the lips were the last ones i made (i think the glue's still a little wet in the pics) and i didn't spend nearly as long planning and thinking about it as the other ones, but i really like it, more than i'd expected to!

my dymo is probably from the 70s too, but it's a bit cranky and doesn't cut very well anymore, so i sucked it up and paid the $11 for a new one and it's like MAGIC! it cuts and makes such clean imprints and it doesn't hurt my hand and it has NEW characters like the @ and SPACES! i love it! it's the second-best $10 i've ever spent! (the super sharp heavy duty paper cutter from the thrift store still wins THE best $10 ever spent prize).

i found woodgrain label tape the other day, i posted the ATC i made with it on the march card-a-day gallery, it's just so fun!
