I saw a warning post on the swap board against lurking posts saying things like "posting just so I get updates."

for me I know that if I didn't have the 'replies to your posts' section on the sidebar, I would never keep up with posts. The bookmarks page is kind of broken as it doesn't update itself or take you to the last post.

If there was a way you could 'watch this discussion' on the side that would maybe update the same way our replies do, then I think people would stop making lurking posts.

I know that that would mean a lot of extra work, but it is a suggestion.

Are you talking about gallery threads? I usually just bookmark the thread as soon as I see it, and then when it has a new reply it will say "new" in your bookmarks. Once there's a project in there you can easily make a useful post saying something about the project versus the completely useless "posting just so I get updates."  HTH!

You can also hit "notify" on a thread and get an email sent to you every time someone responds.
