My nephew is obsessed with Superman. Isn't it amazing how obsessed babies/toddlers can be? He went through a Toy Story phase where we watched either TS1 or TS2 every day when I watched him for about 3 months straight. He'd crawl up the stairs into my condo and over to the tv and say "Buzzz?" Then he went on and on about Cars. Always with the "MeQueen?" And now, though I've moved away, his newest 2 year-old obsession is Superman.

He even tried to fly while watching Superman Returns by jumping off the couch.

I decided to make him a Superman cape as a little gift since it had been a few months since I had seen him last. It's my first cape, so after seeing a kid wear it for 2 days straight, there are a couple things I would change on the design, but all in all it turned out really well.

I made the cape reversible, in case the Superman phase is short-lived. It is red quilting cotton with the superhero emblem made in felt. The reverse side is a heavier dark navy cotton and is plain. The neck tie is actually fastened with velcro, just in case the cape were to get caught on anything.

I figure it can be used to be Superman (which in the photo Superman is shooting up into the air with his fist extended), Batman or just a plain king (I gave him a felt birthday crown just a few months ago).

That's so cute, you have to enjoy those phases while they last.

You really put a lot of great details into it, the velcro is very smart and thoughtful. Good job!

I have two brothers.  One was 3-4 when the Christopher Reeve superman movies were coming out; his hero was superman.  The younger was that age when the batman movies were coming out; and thus batman was his.  They would get into arguments about who would win in a fight.

They both still have their respective capes.

...sometimes these phases aren't so short-lived.

This quote made me giggle - awesome! Smiley

And I agree with Jatoha, I really love all of the little thoughtful details that you put into this cape... it makes it so much more than "just" a cape.  Great work!

Oh wow. I wish I had a cape like this haha but maybe I'm a little bit too old. It looks so proffesional and nice, and everyones right about the details you put in (like the velcro! Smart thinking). I'm really impressed.
