My mother's sixtieth birthday is in a few weeks; this book is part of her gift. The idea for a collection of family photos and recipes has been tossing around in my head for a very long time, but I finally have the time to put it all together!
Lack of time forced me to do the unthinkable - buy a kit (it even has some premade layouts)! But I'm realizing that it's not so bad, with a little creativity it isn't so cheesy after all! It also has plastic pages, so it's a bit more practical if anyone ever wanted to use the recipes.
I'm on a serious deadline (March 16th!) so I'm posting each spread as I finish to help to keep me motivated. Any comments you'd like to add would be great, I need all the motivation I can get!

These photos are not the best, as my scanner won't do pages this large!
This is an old school photo spread! page 1

Thanks for looking!

That is a great idea and I love the papers you are using!!!  you can do it!  For X-mas I made a 7 x 7 album of treasured family Christmas cookie recipies, but I didn't have any pictures of the cookies or us cooking!  (cookies are a big deal in our family...)

If you have any cooking tips or "lessons" from your Mom, it might be cute to add those too.  Where the cookie recipes needed something special (like, "you must grease the sheet", or "use the big mixer"!) I put them in.

Thanks Marykz! I was a bit cocerned about the paper once I started putting photos together; it seems a little sophisticated for photos of babies with frosting everywhere! But I've decided to just go with it.
The cooking tips suggestion is a great idea! I actually color copied my great-grandmother's recipe cards to use as background, so it will have her handwriting in it.

Here is today's spread:

It sparkles, but you can't tell here!

I agree with everyone else. This is a great idea. Your mum is sure to love it. I love your pages too. If you have any funny cooking memories with your mum or there are any funny stories involving your mum and cooking you can always add them in too.

I love the idea of color copying the original recipes in her handwriting to use as a background- what a nice personalized touch!  and the pages are looking great!

And this morning's pages... no I don't have to work this week. Yes, I am home all day long scrapping and watching HBO when I should be working out, ironing, and finding a new job.

btw, these pages with the flash on are much more representative of the actual colors. For some reason some pages just came out better with no flash. Oh, and I can't believe I just posted my face here for the first time, but I don't know how to photoshop it out!

Wow, those pages are absolutely gorgeous!  I'm sure your mum will love it to bits and treasure it always.

You produce wonderful scrapbooks, I just hope one day I will be even half as good as you.

Aww, thanks doll! I am by no means am expert. I'm actually fairly new to the scrapping thing. I just like pretty paper! And since Hubby is out of town for business all week, I hope to have this all done by tomorrow...
Here are today's pages!

this is the end page for now... I think I will leave it so that I can add more photos and recipes later. I really want to add more old pictures of my Great grand and grandparents, but no time for that now!
