As March is National Craft Month and I didn't want it to slip away unnoticed I am hereby hijacking Original Youth's Scavenger Hunt Thread and turning it into our own salute to Craft Month! Each week for the 4 weeks in March I will post an ATC challenge meant to keep us working in new, original ways. Most of these challenges involve using items you already own in your own home. So don't worry- these should not cost much, if any extra money for you to do.
The results of each weeks challenges will be posted right in each thread here- not the swap gallery, as these won't be swapped unless you do it privately. I will post each challenge on Sunday and you have till Sat. midnight (EST) to post your entry. A new challenge thread will appear the next day.
So here we go-
Week 1- That crafty material known as Craft Foam
Materials Needed-
Craft Foam- (if you have some- use it- if you need some you only need i sheet of white that you can color)
Assorted acrylic paints (or Sharpie/Permanent markers)

This may be the only craft that may involve buying a new material, if you don't have sheets of craft foam in the house. You can use other types of foam sheets if needed (like the foam from the butchers dept) but that might require more work to finish. Most craft store sell the sheets of craft foam for about 50 cents each, if you have a store near you. If you are buying a sheet of foam for this- I would recommend white, as you can then color it as you wish.
Using the craft foam- cut out a base for your ATC. Then use the remaining pieces of the foam to create the design of your atc. You can draw shapes right on the foam, with pencil or pen, to cut out and use. Paint/color the individual pieces of foam to create your picture amd assemble. If you are using markers on the foam - let it dry very well as most markers will smear a bit on this material. Try to use a thicker glue, or glue stick to adhere the foam pieces, although any adhesive will work for this.
When completed post image in this thread.

Week 2 Challenge-
This week is so super simple!! All you need is cardboard and magazines. See the message on pg 4 for the details!!

Week 3 Challenge-
Craft ATC's in the Kitchen-  Using cardboard , or any stiff paper for a base, glue on some food items from your kitchen to make a background. Suggested items include- dried beans, rice, salt, cereal, corn meal, etc... (you get the idea). You can create an entire picture using food items if you want, or layer pictures or sticker, embellishments or fibers on your background. No paint please! Just food and paper.!
Now go craft!!

I finally got home from a family party and decided that I needed to make an example ATC for those who are not quite sure of what I meant. Here is my still life- "Jar of Flowers" (sort of kindergarten inspired!!)

I used beige craft foam for the base, blue and white for the vase, bright green strips for the stems, and all the flowers are white craft foam- painted and markered.
The edging on the base is Navy blue acrylic paint that was dry brushed on the edge.

Easy-Easy!!! Give it a try!!

Go for it! If you have many- use them. I just wanted people who don't have craft foam to know these can be done with one sheet- if they're buying one.
I am having a blast making these! Here is my second addition- a foam zetti girl!!

I used cream colored paint for the sky on the blue foam, the face and hair are one piece that I painted. Her eyelids, crown, and wings are painted with gold cream called "Gleams" and her stripey legs were done with burnt umber. Fun indeed!
