I'm not from Montreal, but my husband and I spent our anniversary there in September, and wow, what a wonderful city.  We love it so much!

It is an awesome city.  There is everything here.  It is so cosmopolitan and yet has a European sort of feel.  I love it here.  It is also a very inspiring city from a crafty point of view.

We were only there for a few days, but I did manage to get my husband to let me sneak off for an hour in that huge art supply store on...Ste Catherine?  I can't remember, but if you go down St Denis past the UQAM subway station, it's down that way.  And yes, I bought craft supplies, even on my vacation  Wink

Our very favorite place in Montreal?  Camellia Sinensis, the tea salon.  We went there almost every day.  It's on a little street/alley off of St Denis (across the street from the big movie theatre).

I have never been to either of those places  Embarrassed, but I will definitely have to check them out now.   There are some great bead stores on Sherbrooke and Victoria street.  I have only been living here for a little over a year, but that first year was so busy in terms of job searching etc. that I have only been able to settle back into my crafty habits  the last couple of months.  I am so excited! Probably everyone here knows this already, I am always the last to know everything Wink, but there is a cool craft fair Dec. 11, 12 & 18, 19 at Le Divan Orange, 4234 St. Laurent.  I think it will be fantastic. Grin

I went last week and I think it is open to all ages.  It was awesome!  There were lots of people there and it was in the middle of the day. Le Divan Orange seems to be a vegetarian/vegan resto/bar sort of thing, but it was almost totally turned over to the rusty plum craft fair, so I am sure you can get in... Cheesy

D*mn! I missed it... I saw an ad for the fair at university and wanted to see it, but then I forgot to put it in my planner...   Undecided

As for places to shop for crafts, what else do you suggest instead of Omer Deserres? I agree that their selection for crafty-crafts (things like beads, scrapbooking, etc...) is limited and their stuff is expensive, but their basic supplies  stuff (paint, brushes, papers, glues) are usually pretty good, no?

I like Omer DeSerres but there's also L'Oiseau bleu. I can't remember the address, but it's not too far from the Pie IX Metro Station (you can google it to get the address).

There's also a new yarn store called Mouline Yarns on Notre-Dame Ouest. It's fantastic.

is mouline yarns new? is it the one that's almost in the conrner with atwater? i walked by one day and it had a sing anoucing the opening...

L'Oiseau bleu has a website with instructions on how to get there.

For beads there's bead it on 4926, sherbrooke w. they have a lot of semi precious stones, and any accesorie you might want.

around that neighborhood there's also bead emporium, is victoria and sherbrook or something like that (they advertice on the mirros quite frecuently), but I dont quite like it, I dont know why.

there's also galerie ima on 3839, st. denis (i'm not sure but I think it's kinda close to parc st. louis), anyway i really like this place, they have any kind of wire and pliers you can think of, and it's not so expensive.

also you can always try china town they have good random stuff over there...

also thos dollar and more places are awesome for supplys...

Sorry, I won't be able to attend your quilt stich 'n bitch, but I am so happy that you guys are getting together to work for such a great cause!  I work on Sherbrooke very close to Bead it, but I haven't been in yet.  I know exactly what you mean about the Bead Emporium though.  I find they are never very friendly to me in there except for during the big summer sidewalk sale where I bought some really cool flexible fimo for half price!!  Smiley  I have heard rave reviews about the Mouline Yarn store.  I guess it opened in November.  I can't wait to go. It's at lionel-groulx station, it's a 5 minutes walk from the station
and for some instructions: you go down atwater when you get out of the metro (towards atwater market) and turn left on notre-dame

I just went to the Mouline store for the first time two days ago.   I had a friend take me there since I am really bad with directions, but it is really easy to get there from Lionel-Groulx.  I don't recall whether they had the bamboo needles, she had quite an assortment, but the owner is very nice and would surely get them for you.  She has some amazing sales too, and I hear that they are fairly frequent.

I went to Mouline 2 weeks ago.  The wool was really nice but I didn't find the owner to be that helpful.  When I asked questions she looked at me like I was annoying her.  Maybe she was having a bad day :S

ETA : I went back to the store the other day and had such a better time.  The owner is actually very nice, so I think she was just having a bad day the first time I went.
