i used the recommended needle sizes with my thick and quick for the balthazar vest and it turned out fine.

Hi,
I am using Thick and Quick for the Best Friend Cardigan, and I'm making it on 17s when the pattern calls for 19s. I forget why... Oh yeah, i couldn't find 19s. But I am following directions for the largest size, and it's coming out about a s/m.

one more question....
Maybe I am kinda slow but I am on row 5 (est pattern and inc row) and life id good but I am concerned about row 6 and so forth. Do I leave out the increases on those rows and just purl the stitches between the k4 and cables?

It's still a bit wet, but I arranged it in a dancing cardigan position to celebrate and photograph (I've been very impatient with this project, despite how quickly it went).  My local craft store didn't have five giant clown buttons in any one color, so I had to buy two different colors and alternate. Also, no bobbles.

Well.... I'm almost done with my balthazar's vest although some of the process has been a bit confusing...! for example how to do the back shoulder shaping,,, the whole thing just doesn't make sense and i've been doing it with my grandmother and aunt.... (who only happen to be a couple of the world's greatest knitters...

THEY ARE CONFUSED BY THIS BOOK!

the patterns are seriously beautiful but i don't think they are well explained...

anyway, the pattern called for size 17 and 19 needles but they haven't told me yet to use the 19 size needles, they keep saying with smaller needles, or is it that when they don't specify what size of needles to use you should just ASUME you need to use the 19 sized ones.... HONESTLY CONFUSED.... because if that's the case then the body of the vest was probably to be done in size 19 needles, right? ohhh well,, i did the whole thing in 17...

I had the same problem Jimenita!

The shoulder shaping didn't look like it should have and I could NOT figure out how to pick up in an evenly distributed manner for the collar/cap sleeves.  The instructions just aren't very clear. I think I probably could have picked up more or less as I saw fit, but at the time I didn't trust myself. I frogged it and I think I'll try one of the other projects that I've seen sucessful FOs of.

I also used thick n quick in the correct needle size and the gauge was fine.

i just picked it up from the library, maybe yours would have a copy too?

that being said, the vogue copy differs from the twinkle copy slightly due to guage/yarn chosen. I'm about 50% done the shopping tunic right now. This is a photo taken before tonights progress. I'm using berroco xpress as a sub, it's not quite as thick, but we'll see how it turns out. more on the blog as usual.

to everyone with a FO - is it heavy to wear?  I haven't cast on yet, but i'm worried the finished product will just add 2 kgs to me!!

Honestly, I think the shopping tunic I made does make me look a little...well...lum py.  And I'm a pretty small chica, so it doesn't make much sense.  I think it stems from the fact that the stitches are vey loose and are therefore, not very forgiving.  I'm hoping it might just be that particlar pattern, but I made about half the evening shell (I had to frog because my stitch count was off  ) and I tried on what I had finished, and I wasn't too impressed with how that looked on me either.  All of the other posted FOs look beautiful on their lucky owners, so maybe I need to try a different pattern.

my balthazar's vest has finally been finished, blocked and dried..! I'll take pictures tomorrow with daylight instead of a crappy flash!
