So I love, love, love Keri Russell's hat.

It looks really simple.  I'm assuming I just cast on a larger amount than "normal" and then work in 1x1 rib for about 10 inches?  Then probably k2tog for a more rapid decrease than a regular cap?

Basically I'm looking for a little confirmation before I delve in  Grin

I think the decreasing would actually begin earlier, but be more gradual than your typical hat to get a more rounded shape (most hats are knit straight for most of the bottom, then get sharply decreased - compare a plain beanie pattern).

hmmm... I think you might be right... So instead of steadily decreasing (i.e. k7,k2tog then k6, ktog) I'll decrease then knit a round, decrease then knit a round etc.?

I think spacing the decreases further part (i.e. less decreases per round) might work too.

what if I cast on with a smaller needle, then knit a row or two & switch to a larger needle?  Would that stop the roll?

I just joined the slouch-a-long...it's in among the other knitalongs.  there's some links to slouchy hat patterns, and we'll all be making them together, so that might be a good place to generate more ideas.  just a suggestion!
