ok new knitter with dumb question... how exactly do you work with DPNs? Seems so simple, but Im having a hard time wrapping my tiny brain around it... and the magic loops... are those worth buying of should I just stick to some circs? ARGH!

DPNs can be a booger to work with the first inch or so to start a project. What you can do is work flat for a few rounds then seam them up when you're done. A hat can be done on 16" circs, then you switch to the dpns when you've decreased to where the stitches won't fit around it. Or you can use 2 circs at that point. Or you can use a longer needle, 24-40" and do the whole thing with Magic Loop.

Magic loop is a method of knitting that uses long circular needles  Grin I've used DPNs but I prefer magic loop since I learned how to do that.

There are tutorial videos for using all methods of knitting in the round on http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/advanced_techniques/

I hope that helps  Wink

As far as buying dpn's: Check out joann.com.  I buy a lot of needles from them because they are always having some type of sale or promotion.  Right now they have 50% off of any single item and often they have free shipping promotions.  Or you could check out ebay.

I just started sea urchin for my sister last night using hot pink and dark brown as my two yarns rather than doubling one color.  We'll see how it turns out!

Hobby Lobby has 40% off needles this week. They usually have dpns in size 0-8.

I'm not a fan of the back of the hat (again, I blame my giant head), but I think I pom-pom will fix it:

Love your hat...it's looks great.  And the color is fantastic.  Congrats on getting married  Smiley
