I wasn't sure where to put this, so I slapped it in here.  Smiley

My dad recently carved this out of a carrot and made me put it on craftster. hehe. it took him about 5 hours to do and he's using it as a centerpiece for a dish he's making. (he's a chef)

edit:

I finally finished my own carving. It's not nearly as good as my dad's, but I'm pretty happy with it.  Smiley (p.s. mine is only about 5 inches tall  Tongue)

Sorry if it's blurry or too big! The wings took me forever to shape. It took me about three carrots to perfect it.  Cheesy Hope you guys like!

thriftjunkie- it's still being preserved in some special liquid, i'm not sure what, but it's about 12 and a half inches tall.

That is wicked cool!  I'm always in awe of folks who willingly spend so much time on a piece of art knowing it is destined for a short life (a la Tibetan sand mandalas and food sculpture.)
Kudos to your pa!

When I read that it was made from a carrot, my first thought was, "You have got to be kidding me!!"

WOW--I have seen some gorgeous food sculptures when I was in Japan--but, this is just incredible!!

Yeah, I've gotten so inspired by my dad that I had decided to make one. I'm in the process of carving a bird and i must have sliced myself like a hundred times.
