There is a possibility that I might be moving to Seville this year, posibly in a month or two as my bloke has applied for a work transfer there. We're heading out on Wednesday for a few days to look around so hope I'll have a better idea of the town and area then, but I wondered if there was anyone on here who's moved to Seville (or Spain in general) who would be able to offer any advice?

I'm trying to learn Spanish at the moment, that's a must really, but I was thinking that if I move, are there any crafty groups you know of that I could meet up with to practice my Spanish and socialise with like-minded crafty people?

Also, what's the craft scene like out there? There seem to be a fair few Spanish folks on here, so that's encouraging! Grin

Any help/opinions at all would be most appreciated! Smiley

Hi! I'm from Zaragoza (at the other side of Spain) but I can help you  Wink

Crafts scene is changin here day by day.. It used to be a contry of granny's crafts, or crafts for kids, but we are having a BIG revolution. I think there are two important materials wich are in vogue here: polymer clays and felt. You can see it in any bazaar, indie shop...

Anyway, it still something underground, so it would be difficutl to you find stores or crafty groups.

I show you some sevillian stores:

MANUALIDADES
C/Laraa

PADURA
c/ Cuna

LA TIENDA DE ANA
C/Niebla, 15 - Los Remedios
Telf.9542828

SILVIA FRANNIS
C/Luis Montoto 31
Tlfn/fax: 954 53 49 58
http://www.silviafrannis.com

VINDA
C/Trajano, 29
Telf: 954 90 66 72

I got this info from http://www.fimoland.com/foro/ the very best forum in spanish about crafts.

It's been about 18 years since I lived in Spain as a college study abroad student, but I have such fond memories of Seville.  It is a large, beautiful city and very cosmopolitan. Learning enough conversational Spanish would be a must b4 moving there, but being immersed in it as a resident would help you learn it much faster (sink or swim!).

I'm jealous that you have a chance to move there.  Interestingly enough (to me  Smiley), I ended up in Kansas City USA, whose sister city is none other than Seville, Spain!  One of Kansas City's premier shopping districts is modeled after the architecture of Seville, complete with a replica of La Giralda (famous bell tower landmark in Sevilla).

Good luck on your visit and potential move.  What a grand adventure.

Oh, it was wonderful! Ha ha, despite the new tram system having half the roads dug up.

We managed to get by on our Spanish, but it's full steam ahead to learn now for if we do go to live out there!

I found some wonderful fabric and accessory shops, 2 art shops and the most wonderful bead shop! I'm happy that if we do move, I will still be able to craft away! Smiley

Good idea. I'll try and track them down again on the map and put them up here in case they're of use to anyone else.
