Yeah so I made this hat and mittens set for my new baby cousin for Christmas (well new at the time - she was only 2 months old then)

I used Knitpicks Bare in worsted weight wool - not great for baby wear, but I figured she wouldn't fit into them long enough for the washing thing to matter. 

I also dyed the yarn myself using black cherry and grape kool aid and jasmine tea (for the pink, purple, and off white colors)

I made up my own pattern for both, and put evenly spaced bobbles throughout, and a pom pon at the top of the hat.  The only place I didn't put them was on the palms of the mittens (which are also thumbless...as far as my mom told me, babies don't need separate thumbs...which makes sense...what are they going to do with them?)

I think you did a great job with the dying! No clashing of colours, and it knit up really well. Smiley Your cousin will love them. Wink
