almost free fabric at Hancock fabrics

Your Mileage May Vary as I don't know if they have this in every store-but in my Hancock Fabrics they bag up the 1/2 yard or smaller bits of fabric off the bolts in grab bags for one dollar! I generally find each bag has 10 to 15 pieces so it's like 10 cents or less a piece. I've bought at least 2 dozen of these bags over the last several weeks and for anyone who does a lot of smaller item sewing it's a steal. The bag is taped shut so you don't know what you're going to get but I've gotten everything from felt, clear vinyl, broadcloth, silky fashion fabrics, fleece, flannel-pretty much anything they sell.
 It doesn't hurt to go in and ask. 

I'd be interested to find out if other Hancock's do this.

I buy these often   My daughter loves the grab bags.  Sometimes they even put them on clearance and you can get the bags 2 for $1 its a fantastic deal.   Ever so often we even find pieces in the bags that are almost a full yard.  I'm glad someone else buys goodie suprise bags lol.

I've seen those at various hancocks but unfortunately the one nearest me sells theres at a rip off of $5 per bag. But I sill enjoy there big table full of remnants!

Hmmm, I'll have to look at my Hancock Fabrics.  I know they have grab bags of ribbon for $1.99 (which I love), but I don't remember seeing fabric.  I hope they do!!

I believe I heard that Hancock Fabrics is going out of business in Michigan. A) Does anyone here know if that's true? B) Does anyone know if any of the other big fabric stores have similar grab-bags? I'd love to get one as I have been learning a bit of embroidery and would like to make a quilt out of scraps like that.

My Hancocks doesn't do this at all they cut all there scraps up into fat quarters, and sell them for $1.49 a piece.

Buying fabric in the UK is a nightmare.  They never want to do a deal.   
I guess you might get lucky at a boot sale or something...

aww we dont have hancock hear in Australia!!! I wish we did!! today i brought some scraps from our most common craft shop, Spotlight, some peices were only .10c!! dont you just love a bargin!!!

Even though there aren't Hancock Fabrics stores where I live anymore, I recently found out that the local Walmart Supercenter sells fabric scraps very cheaply. The have them rolled up and placed in a huge bin and marked down really cheap - sometimes 60%

Funny story - I don't keep much cash on me and I was at Walmart with friends, and I saw a piece of fabric I liked. At the checkout the cashier asked me why I was paying for something for 43 cents with my credit card?! Oh well..

WOW, I didn't know Hancock did things like that! The only one near us is about 30 minutes away, but I avoided it thinking they'd be too expensive, but next time we're up there with extra spending cash, I'm going to sweet-talk hubby into stopping by! Thanks for the tip, I thought Walmart was the only place that did the bargin bin with the fabrics. Thanks for the tip!
