I'm considering organizing my first swap and am concerned about newbies flaking. Do we have to allow newbies in our swap?
Are everyone's experiences generally good with newbies?

I wouldn't be worried at all about allowing newbies. Often they are the most enthusiastic participants and are really eager to show what they can do. I have organized many swaps, and sadly, have had flakers in all but one. None of the flakers have been newbies, though.

Part of the reason we have the one month/15 post rule is to avoid having people sign up to just get free stuff and disappear. This seems to be working well.  Smiley

I'm in the middle of organizing my second swap and in the first swap, there were NO flakers and in this second one (a newbie swap), it looks good, too.  What is funny, is that in two of the swaps that I've participated in that have had flakers, two of them were the organizers that had been around for a long time and had participated in multiple swaps--so, it's really a crap-shoot.  Personally, I've enjoyed the newbie partners that I've had--like rackycoo said, they're usually very enthusiastic and fun to swap with!

in general, the only times i've seen newbies barred from swaps is if the items swapped will be extremely "large" or if it is a "secret" swap.  in my experience, newbies are AWESOME swappers!  Cheesy

And the rules are set so rapists and stuff dont sign up and get addresses. I know that sounds extreme but we want trustworthy people signing  up.
If you are really worried you can set a rule against Noobs.
However, most people that flake are NOT noobs.

I had a gal flake on me that had been in a million swaps and had great feedback. You never know.

I am too new here to swap yet, but from previous experience on unmoderated swapping groups, the one month rule here is excellent. And in my previous experience, yes, it is more likely to be more experienced swappers who flake, this may be due to burnout, another reason why limiting the number of swaps one can be in at once or organize at once is a very good idea. On unmoderated swapping groups, I have just seen people go hog wild at first, and when the honeymoon is over, bad attitudes develop. I applaud the civility here, and the few extra rules that make things better for everyone.
