so...i was making a skirt for valentines day, cuz my boyfriend and I are going out to dinner....so today I made this. (*see pic below*)
however, it's insanely boring. it looks like something i would wear to church, not out to dinner with my boyfriend. haha. so....i was wondering is anyone had any suggestions?? maybe?

I have a yard of that dark red fabric seen in the tiny stripe on the skirt...i also have a yard or so of beige-ish fabric that is the same color as the background of the floral material. i also have just about every other material imagineable. haha.

so far, the only idea i have come up with is...i was thinking of maybe doing some random stitching around the top part...just un-straight lines and stuff...to give it a bit of demension...but i don't know WHAT to do with the bottom. all i know is that SOMEthing needs to be done.

also...instead of making a normal hemline...i just thought i'd zigzag stitch over the bottom and let it look a little "rough"... but i just havent done that yet

Maybe make some double-fold bias-trim with the burgundy and edge around the bottom with it? I think it would just look unfinished as a means of laziness instead of coolness, but thats just me.

Or you know, put a slit in the back of it. Its Valentines day, get sexy with it!

It reminds me of Balenciaga's stuff that they have been doing lately. Totally cute, and very posh.

I think the skirt is really cute, and it doesn't look too conservative.  How long is it right now?

If you want to spice it up, maybe you could rutch (sp?) up a section in front and show a little lace 'underskirt', or even just add a bit of a slit to the side to show a little knee! Shocked  I love the fabric combination, and it looks really well and neatly done.  Good job!

Hello, that's a lovely skirt.
A little ruffle or two at the bottom would look cute, IMHO.
In the same colour fabric or in the dark red colour you used for the piping if you have enough.

it's about knee length right now... maybe a tad longer but that's just because i haven't done anything with the hem yet.

i like the rouching idea! i'll have to try that out.

maybe i should take a pic with me actually wearing it, becaue a lot of everyone's great ideas would look better with a pencil skirt (like the slit in the back thing) this skirt is a tad more...flowy? haha i don't know if that's a word. i'll take another picture tonight.

bananabanana: i'm thinking the ruffle thing would be cute...or maybe keep it staring on the outside and have an underneath layer be ruffled that shows from the bottom?

Does the fabric ravel at all?  'Cause fringe might be really cool, although it appears to have something of a flare, so maybe that wouldn't work . . . but you could applique a little som'in' som'in' on for example the booty.

yah it ravels a bit...i thought that making a zig zag stitch along the bottom, then washing it and leaving the edges raw...

and appliqueing sounds like a great idea
