I love microfossils, specifically foraminifera...
What are foraminifera you ask?  Check out this link:http://www.nmnh.si.edu/paleo/foram/foram.html

planktonic foram for reference:

I really wanted to make a foram hat for this challenge, so here is my planktonic foram beret!

My first professor crush was on a micropalentologist named Neil who was almost inappropriately enthused about forams. He would love this hat, and so do I.

First of all, this beret is awesome. Secondly,

My first professor crush was on a micropalentologist named Neil who was almost inappropriately enthused about forams. He would love this hat, and so do I.

Your entire first sentence makes the language lover in me do a happy little dance. Fantastic word choice.

ok, yes, I'm weird, I know. shut up.

The blue around the edge is supposed to be the ocean upon which the foram floats...  In my mind's eye it's down near the Southern Ocean.  I might add earflaps to compensate for the bitter cold.

This is a great looking hat, designed after a beautiful organism! Nicely done! Now you've got me thinking about this challenge in a whole new way! Although, I probably won't have time to turn any of those thoughts into reality...

I like the creative choice of creature. Nothing wrong with kitty shaped hats, but this is certainly novel!
