I made these toasty cushions for my mom. cause she's always cold (well, who can blame her when it's minus 40 - I kid you not!).

They are filled with flax and rice and we heat them in the microwave (with a cup of water) for a few minutes.  The small one is backed with pink polar fleece, the big one with green.

That's a relly good idea.  They kind of remind me of old fashioned bed warmers.  I definitely have to make some for my house.  None of you would ever believe just how cold it is.  Really.

Those are so pretty!  Much better than the boring bags I make.   What a lucky Mom.

Thats such a cute idea! I was trying to make one of those the other day (in the shape of a hot water bottle!) but my sewing machine didn't want to co-operate so I gave up, I never thought of doing it in patchwork!

Those are cute!  I especially like the second one -- the color combination is fantastic.

those are awesome, i LOVE the fabric on the second one. Where'd you get it?
do you actually put water on them when you microwave them? my mom's friend had a teddy bear filled with rice that she'd microwave use as a heating pad, but i didn't know you use water...

I just put a mug of water in the microwave with the pillow, to avoid scorching (not sure if you really need it, but it can't hurt).  I got all the fabric at Joann's.

Thanks!
