FIBER FRIDAY 02/09/07

I just learned how to spin last night i am so excited to be a part of the community!!! HaHAha!!!
so here is my first skein if you can call it that

and it all knitted up!

I didn't get around to spinning anything this week (as I sold my main wheel a week ago and am awaiting my new one, and I can't spin what I want on my Hitchhiker due to ratio limitations..)

But I did buy and wash a Border Leicester fleece!

Still some VM in there, but it seems to be nice fresh "friendly" VM if there is such a thing.. all the dirt and gunk is gone.  It's still not quite dry so I haven't done much teasing and picking bits out by hand yet.

It's sooooo soft, and soooo curly, I really can't wait for my wheel to get here!!

finally! something to show!



I finally pulled the black and brown off my spool. and the white was spun up from the stuff I prepared a couple of weeks ago. one is navajo plied, but it didn't really want to be so I left the rest single. Here is a closeup



I'm taking my wheel on mini break, I plan to spin until I run out of fiber!

"Tainted Love" - squishy wool singles with random bits of fuzzy mohair. There are big slubs of black wool throughout.







"Ariel" - superwash merino, bamboo, and pale green nylon sparkle. I love this yarn - very very silky & soft.

I've been lazy (or busy) and haven't posted in the fiber friday threads for SEVERAL fridays...so here's a glimpse at other fibery things I've made recently:

"Posy" handspun yarn set. One skein superwash merino plied with cotton thread and one skein superwash merino plied with recycled pink 80% merino/20% angora yarn and felted kid mohair flowers.



Woodburned drop spindle. I taught myself how to woodburn and put together some learn-to-spin kits.

Emerald Isle: merino/corriedale, appx 24 yds - my first 2ply that I'm really proud of 




Dreamscape: 100% mohair, appx 37 yds, 14wpi - it's so soft and fuzzy.. I love it! And my first time spinning mohair...





Hot Pants: spun from silk hankies! first try with that too! lol  appx 7 yds





Reflections: merino/corriedale, appx 30 yds, 7wpi  -first navajo plied skein! I didn't think I'd really be able to do it on a spindle.. but there it is!





I really love spinning!   I can't wait til I can afford a wheel.. lol
