Cascade Eco Wool & Yardage/Sweater Question

I've been thinking about buying some Cascade Eco-Wool for either a sweater or a cardigan. Nothing too complicated (no cables, etc). Each skien is 478 yards, and the ball band says it knits up at 3.5 sts per inch. I've checked a few yarn yardage calculators, and asked a bunch of people, and everyone's saying either 2 or 3 skeins. Since they're expensive I'd rather not buy too much, so I'm curious if any of you have experience with this yarn, and how much I'd need for a simple sweater or cardigan. I don't have a pattern yet, but I have a basic idea. Thanks so much guys!

What chest measurement are you planning to make the sweater to fit? The size will affect how much yarn you'll need. Maybe not enough to make a difference with such high yardage though.

Whoops! Where is my mind today?!

I usually knit a large or a medium size, with a bust between 36 & 38 depending on the pattern.

I checked out a book from the library a couple weeks ago that listed sweater yardage estimates for all different gauges.
I'll see if I can find it. (Not sure if my mom returned it yet. )

I knit the Big Sack Sweater from SnB in the large size with Cascade Ecological Wool and though I bought 2 skeins, I only used 1 and didn't even need to touch the other. Hope that helps.

You can do a 38" (finished) sweater with 2 skeins, assuming it's not super long.
