Okay... firstly... the pictures DO NOT do it justice.  Secondly... HEEEEHEEEE.  Unlike many of my other projects I desided to post this one.  Why? Because it's a bit unique. I haven't seen anyone do one like it.  The closest thing is the plastic canvas Nintendo DS case which can be seen here.

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=127932.0

And no, I did not take inspiration from it.

I have a Creative Zen MicroPhoto, which if anyone has one, should know that it's hard to find a case for. Because I live in Canada, shipping for one off the Creative Labs website is close to $30 and then $40-$50 for the player is simply too much. Instead, I decided to make one. I used DMC floss <3, and stitched on perforated plastic. It came out really well, and I'm pretty pleased. The pics don't really do it justice, but that's okay.

The front has the pink bunny, the side has my name in pink, and the back has a little flower.  The top is cut out to allow access to the on/off switch and headphone jack.

Hope you like!!

that's amazing!  I like it about ten times better than a lot of the other cases I've seen.

Hi whateverjames.  Firstly, thanks for the kind words.  Secondly, I didn't use a kit.  I drew a few rough sketches, to figure out the logistics of it, then cut out each piece individually by using the player itself as the approximate size, leaving a bit of extra room for the threads to build up.  Because I used plastic canvas, cutting it out was easy.  Even cutting the holes for the screen and the earphone jack were simple.  I just used a small pair of scissors I got with a nail kit.

Hope this has helped you in some way.   If you still have any questions, feel free to post!

Oh, and forgot to mention.  I used a chart for the pattern, but had to rework the letters to make them even down the side.  I really lucked out having the bunny fit so perfectly!

I think I just have to get my needles and plastic canvas out now... I've been pondering a case for my mp3, because nothing exists, and now I've seen one made! I still have to figure out how to close the thing, as I've got buttons on one long side + earplug contact on the end side...  Roll Eyes
Any ideas?

Firstly, thanks for the support.  Secondly, I was wondering what mp3 player your have.  If I know this, I can look up a picture of it, then maybe will be able to help with the construction!

Glad you like the idea! My only suggestion, though, is that plastic canvas (vs. perforated plastic) which you use with yarn, uses fairly large holes, so I don't know what kind of a pattern you could fit on there... but it still might work.  Unless you meant perforated plastic in the first place... so disregard this completely! Smiley

Well, I have a Creative Zen nano plus 1gb - it's a wonderful size, holds all the music I need for my purposes (lunch walks) - but because my play/pause button is on the top right front side, the buttons go all the way down the right side and the earplug contact is on the top, I have almost nowhere I can close the case without "losing" some buttons...

Any help is of course appreciated, as I get very UNcreative in these matters...  Roll Eyes

Okay.  I've taken a look at some pictures, and I think you can totally do this.  You'll be limited in your pattern/cover design options because it's smaller than mine, but that's okay.  Here's what you do.  Each piece of plastic canvas needs to be cut out separately.  You need to cut one for the back which will be the full-size of one of the largest sides of the player.  Hang on... maybe a diagram would be easier.

Okay.  I worked one out, and posted on my Deviant Art Account.  Don't worry, you don't need an account to view it, just click the link.  Click the picture to make it full size.

I expect to see some pictures!

Haha, just kidding.  Don't feel any obligation to actually take a stab at this!

Thanks so much, emulatris!  If you know how to cross stitch it's really not that hard... the hard part is coming up with a pattern small enough! XD

Anyways, thanks for the kind words!

I cut the "window" piece on the wrong end though, so the fit isn't great there, but it works. I'll see about the pic tomorrow! Smiley

Ok, so I finally got around to taking pics of my version of the mp3-case, made with excellent pattern-making skills by pinky_penguin! I'm quite pleased with it myself, but anyone looking at it upclose and personal will see that I've cut the wrong end of the piece that is on the on/off button side, so the fit is a little off. Better luck next time I guess!  Roll Eyes
