I'm so far north I am practically in Canada!  Are there any other NNYers out there?  I'm always up for meeting new crafty types and finding new places to shop for crafty goodies up here!

so I was just randomly browsing though the site and found you! I am also from northern NY, and I mean northern. HA HA HA.. Unfortunately, I have recently learned that there is a huge LACK of places to buy great yarn around here.. Not to mention I am poor at the moment. :-) But hey it would definitely be cool to swap ideas and local shopping secrets. Ha ha.. Since it appears by your name that you too are a fan of crochet. :-D

Nice place, but we could have more places to buy yarn.. LOL.. So far the options are walmart and michaels.. For the most part I find michaels to be a little too pricey to purchase anything for large projects..

I have Walmart, Joanns in Ogdensburg and there is a big yarn shop that is fairly new in Canton.
I've shopped on line too which is fun but I do like to FEEL what I'm getting. Smiley

I completely understand.. Unfortunately online has the best selection. A while back I bought yarn to make a blanket for my cousin who is pregnant.. Although I will admit the yarn was very soft, after I had crocheted it, it felt like a towel to me.. So needless to say, if I had felt the yarn, I probably wouldn't have purchased it.

Alright!  Some other northern NYers!  I wish people would realize there is more to New York than NYC.  There is nothing hardly anything for crafters in this tundra.  So what does everyone like to make?

I'm a half hour from the Canadian border.
I go to "DA BURG" to shop and I love the Joann's store and I get a lot of goodies into Walmart. I go to Watertown once or twice a year to hit Michaels. Smiley
Gotta love the north country. Woke up to 1 here. BRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm in Northern NY.  My husband and I recently moved here so that I could take a teaching job.  We live near Fort Drum and, besides the school I teach in, there isn't really an art scene.  It's sooo depressing.  Maybe I need to look more?  Thank goodness for the internet!

Peace,
Melanie

Hello,
Fellow Northern New Yorker here (of 3 years, formerly of Ohio) I'm a newbie to the craft scene as well. I've recently become a stay-at-home-mom and have begun tinkering in the paper crafting area. So I'm currently living in Malone and wondering where everyone gets their supplies. I usually shop at Michaels in Plattsburgh, and JoAnn's in Malone but I didn't know if I was missing some other place.

Hey all,

I haven't checked this thread in awhile but decided to see if anyone new popped in.  RocknRoll, I live about 30 minutes from Alex Bay.  I recently discovered Clayton and adore it!  There's an art center there complete with classes in everything from spinning to sculpture!

I just stumble upon this site when looking for craft fairs in the area.  For the person looking for yarn--Misty Hollow in Potsdam and the shop in Rensaleer Falls (kind of pricy, but really pretty stuff)..

I'm seeing Plattsburgh, Canton, Clifton Park (I have family there!), but haven't seen Altona/Mooers/Ellenburg from anyone. That's where I am. All on the same street, in fact! My house is in Altona, but when we cross the street, we're in Ellenburg, and the hill to our north is Mooers.

And Canada? 5-10 minute drive to the border. Not that I've lived here all my life, but for the last 6 years and I love it.

I have found a LYS in Burlington, VT that I like to visit when I'm in the area. My kids' dentist is in Essex Junction, so Kaleidescope Yarns is en route.
