I'm working on Julia from Rowan Classic Summer #11 and when I get to the armholes it says this:

Decrease 1 st at each end of the next 9 rows, then on following 6 alt rows, then on following 4th row.

What the heck does "on following 6 alt rows" mean?  I'm sure it's obvious and I'm having a mental block but I'm confused!!  Thanks!!

First 9 rows, you're decreasing by 2 sts (minus 18 sts).  The alternating 6 means you knit one row without decreases, then decrease 2 sts on the next... (minus 12 sts).

Oh oh oh... The two rows before it had been casting off at each end and I had it in my head that this was still decreasing at the beginning of each row.  I knew I was misreading something.  THANK YOU!

You're welcome!  I had to look at it a couple of times, too.  Comes naturally when you've used one technique to shape, and this one's asking for something different! :/
