My hubby and I bought a 1950s house last year and I thought it would be fitting to style the kitchen like a 50s diner. We put in a checkerboard floor and stainless countertops and I painted the walls a bright coral color. All I needed to complete the look was some cool looking retro fabric.

Hancock fabrics carries several patterns designed by retro artist Keary Beary, and one of them had these awesome old fashioned radios on it. By a stroke of fate, some of the radios are the same color as my kitchen walls!

So now I have cafe curtains (pretty much without a pattern) and a cozy for my beloved Kitchenaid mixer (using a modified bread-maker pattern from Simplicity 4341).  I've had the curtains up for a while but I finished the cozy tonight. I've never quilted anything before...wow...tedious...

The binding is a little wonky but overall I'm happy because now my darling mixer will not get covered in dust.

Looks great! Now all you need is an actual retro-style radio that looks like one of the radios on the fabric.

I saw this retro toaster at the store the other day and it was made to look like an old fashioned radio...then I got closer and realized it WAS a radio... A TOASTER and a RADIO in ONE!

Unfortunately I already have a toaster and an under the cabinet radio, so I didn't have an excuse to buy it.

It's so weird to see this on something else because I have pajama pants I made out of that fabric that I wear everynight! Hah.

But yeah, a 50s kitchen sounds adorable!

The fabric is sold by Hancock Fabrics, although I think it has been discontinued. I actually bought out my local store so I could have extra of it laying around for future use.

It is designed by retro artist Kerry Beary and I think it is called "Atomic Radio" but I'm not positive about that. There's also a style with little televisions on it.
