First of all, Infinite Annie, you have guts! Second, I think everything's fine the way it is. In fact, I think Leah and the Mods are pretty lenient when it comes to craftsters posting stuff they sell. Looking at the posts, I can choose to find out whether they're selling it or not. If I knew before hand that someone's post was of something they were selling, I probably wouldn't look at it because I don't like being solicited to. I like the kick back atmosphere of this forum. I don't feel pressured to do better, or lame because I can't. I also don't think we should be able to advertise for free. That wouldn't be fair to the sponsors and Craftster wouldn't gain the $ it needed to keep running. I think it's pretty cool that we're even allowed to put links to our stores in our signature, and up to 5 links in our profile.

When I first started out here, I thought...cool a place for me to outsource. One of my first couple posts was of stuff I sold. (I wasn't aware of the DOs and DON'Ts yet) But now, I see there's so much more to craftster. I feel comfortable and like I belong here whether I sell my crafts or not. Since I read all the guidelines, I haven't posted anything I sell. This forum means more to me than a place to advertise. There are so many more advertising options out there, and I wouldn't want to risk my reputation in this community for a couple of sales.

OK. done. sorry i got all sentimental. Tongue

If you want a place where people show off their wares to sell, then etsy's got you covered.  If you want a place to chat about your latest creation, crafster is perfect.

I agree!  I also think that the Completed Projects boards are being used as "a place where people show off their wares to sell" in their signature links to Etsy and elsewhere and that, if this is true and it's tolerated, it should have a board of it's own.

This is what Leah wrote in The Need to Know Guide

"Selling things is not what Craftster is for. Craftster is a community where crafters can share ideas and inspiration. When you take up space with subtle or blatent advertisements, it really dilutes the usefulness of Craftster AND you increase the risk that someone will copy your idea rather than buying it.

* Note that if you are looking for feedback from a business perspective on an item that you sell, logical exceptions can be made to the rules above and posts like this must be made in the MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS > Crafty Business Ventures > Get Product and Website Opinions board."

I absolutely adore this statement, and the 'Get Product and Website Opinions board"!  Cheesy  My new board suggestion actually arose from my desire to see both more fully realized.

I think posts, of the type I've been referring to, can be perceived as  breaking the rules and spirit of Craftster.  They can also be perceived as not breaking the rules.  It's kinda like the crazy, "depends on what the meaning of is is" argument.  And, because of this duel nature, these posts currently exist in a grey zone in the Completed Projects boards.  A new board clears the fuzziness and honors both pros. and DIY'ers

Wow, kitschkween!  Your taking of personal responsibility and your self discipline and the obvious respect you have for yourself and for Craftster makes you a huge hero in my book.  Thank you so much!

I hope what you have here is contagious!

It is contagious!  And now I've got it.  So, I'm taking personal responsibility for my actions by withdrawing my board suggestion.  Please see the *Edit* in my original post.  I think the thread following it, however, made for a mighty fine conversation, and I thank y'all, most sincerely, for participating.  Cheesy

I can dig it kitschkween!  And in doing so I think you showed gobs of integrity.  Which encouraged me to reflect on the soundness of my own choices in trying to encourage others to reflect on the soundness of theirs...A Perfect circle, really!  After all, what's good for the goose, is good for the gander.   Cheesy

Ha, you two are both so cute! It's like a massive love-in, in here!  Kiss
I love how considerate and supportive of each other people on these boards are (I for one was never insulted by your suggestion, Infinite Annie).
