I watched the video, but couldn't figure out something...

You start by cutting up the length of the straw from the "bottom" to the start of the bendy part. (where "bottom" means the longer smooth part -- the part that normally goes in the glass)  Then you make another parallel cut....

But do you cut it into three equal widths or 1/4, 1/4, 1/2, or something else?

I suppose that I could try a couple of different things, but it seems like asking someone who successfully completed the exercise would be easier.

I got confused at that part too. I could try to make you a mspaint sketch or take some pictures when I get home from work if you can wait. (I get off at 5 and it will take about 20min to get home after that.)
If you can pause the video or slow it down on your player that's what I did. and it helped a lot!

Oh thank you, that would be awesome!  Any time you get a chance, I'm in no rush, really. I'm just in love with these little guys and I'd love to be able to make one successfully!

I'll try to find a player that will let me slow the video down, thanks for the tip!  Maybe that will make it easier to see what's going on.

thanks again!

you make two cuts at the top, and one underneath. the top ones are about a stripe apart on my straw (its a stripy straw!) and the bottom one is between the top two cuts dead in the middle. Once you have the three cuts you should have two wider stripes of straw and one skinnier strip. pinch the skinnier strip right next to the bend bit of the straw, so it has a fold down the center for about an inch, this is shrimp's backbone. Then you start the knots.
i made my second one last night from memory and it worked out much neater than my first. I run Firefox on a PC and i could download the video but it was huge. like 58meg or something. that might be the problem. Maybe i could put it up on youtube....hmmm.

it has just gone up there so they might take a few minutes to let it be seen i think.
I have no idea if this is breaking any rules or not, but it is up there now, so hopefully you can all see it now.
