I got all excited and was about to send in my questionaire and then I stopped...  I've only dyed a handful of times(with kool aid in my crock pot), and only solid colors(well, one color, but there are always spots in the roving that the color seems a big lighter or darker).  I've seen some craftsters with "braided(do you braid it yourself?) roving" that they have painted, but I've never done that.  I'll have to search for a tute for painted roving.  I want to send out roving that'll be just as pretty as the roving I'll get(some of the stuff I've seen on the spinning board is to die for!!!).

Yay!  I'm so glad that people are already signing up Smiley

Glittergirl, there's a good tutorial on how to braid roving here:
http://spinknit.blogspot.com/2006/10/how-to-braid-roving.html
I don't know of many tutorials specifically on painting roving, but you can use most of the same techniques as you would for painting yarn - lay it out in a big strip and paint colors on different parts.  I found some tutorials:
http://gfwsheep.com/rov.inst/rov.inst.html
http://www.knitty.com/issuespring06/FEATKSdishwasherdyeing.html

Or, use your crockpot but sprinkle or squirt on different colors.

And hey, we have 5 weeks to practice!  So sign up Smiley Smiley

So, I've never actually dyed my own fibre, so I'm kind of excited to give it a go with this swap.  Also, I'm a sucker for getting things in the mail.  But who isn't?

I have heaps of hand-dyed roving but none of it is dyed by me - is it still ok for me to take part?

The focus of this swap is on the handdyed aspect - that is, for the craftster to do the dyeing.  There have been (and will be again) roving swaps to trade all kinds of different rovings.  So for this swap, you should do the dyeing yourself.
There are plenty of tutorials out there if you'd like to give it a try - all you need is some light-colored fiber and some kind of dye (Kool-Aid, food coloring and cake icing colors all work).
