Hi,

I am a junior in high school. I want to take 4-H Washington D.C trip. There are also other 4-Hers who would like to go on various 4-H trips this summer. I need some fundraising ideas. I can sew, embroider, cross stitch and bead. I have also just started to crochet. If you have any crafty ideas or ANY ideas please let me know THANKS

Emily

good on you for being in 4h!!

what about selling something related to 4h? there are a ton of cowpoke out there who are always looking for interesting do-dads. you could also sell something super basic like mittens or scarves or bags at your school or various vendors. the scarves could be super simple micro fleece with a rad embroidery on it.

ideas that i could have for animal related crafting!

horse blankets
embroidery on the horse blankets
various warming blankets for all 4 h animals
matching vest/blanket sets for competitor and animal
simple travel bags for tools

good luck!!

The thing about raising money with crafts is that it requires you to spend money on supplies (er, or your parents will have to spend money) with no guaranty you'll sell anything. Also, there's limited time before school's out for the summer, so if you want to hit up your fellow students, you have to work fast and get as much as you can while you can.

If you're selling to kids at school, their funds are limited, too, so keeping the goods around $5 and under is ideal. My first thought is "raffle" and "bake sale"; raffles are trickier because there are local laws to consider, and you'd have to get a few prizes donated, but you could keep all the proceeds for your trips. It might take some time, though, to get the paperwork done. Kids will always purchase cookies and bars, so that's an easy one if you could do a bake sale a few times before school lets out. You could offer a few crafty things at the table to see how it goes. Of course you have to get the school's permission. If you do it as a group you'll have better luck than asking as an individual.
