Thank you everyone for even more great suggestions Smiley Next time I go to visit, I'll be sure to add a few of the products mentioned.

I started knitting the chemo cap! I was so happy to learn I could knit in the round. I haven't worked too much on it in a week or so, but it's coming along (slowly!). Thank you again  Grin

i've had lymphoma for 2 years and i'm only 22, so i know exactly how it feels.
i have to agree with rubypearl, candy of any type (homemade is perfect) helps.  for 2 days after chemo all i had was a taste of metal in my mouth and anything sweet or sour helped.
sometimes your feet swell, so a pair of crochet slippers would be perfect too.  not only are they comfortable but when the feet swell it won't ruin your shoes.
during the summer hats get really hot so you could make a bandana to wear, i wore those every day in the summer.
my mom brought me a travel size scrabble to play during chemo too.  i played with some of the other people there sometimes.  barely ever won though heh.
hope that helped.  good luck.

I definitely second (or third!) the idea of something to pass the time...no cancer here, but ive spent almost all of the past year ill with a virus that makes me exhausted all the time and what i find most frustrating is when my head is working but my body isnt and im just bored to tears.  depending on what she likes to do, id recommend corssowrd puzzles or logic problems, or get her a simple crafting DIY kit!  I started crafting-something Id wanted to do forever-BECAUSE i was sick...i could pick something up and work on it on the couch or in bed and put it down again when i was too tired.

but again, certainly, showing her you care is going to be the best thing.  and doing it for the duration of the time she's sick is key...Im 24 and a lot of my friends were really supportive at first and then as time has gone by, theyve started fading away completely.  now, i dont have anything particularly risky or life threatening, but certainly life altering, so its been hard.  if it werent for family (and my darling fiancee who was only with me a month before i GOT sick, bless him!) id be completely depressed.

so when she gets better, remember the process is long.  gifts and packages for now are FANTASTIC but when shes home and still exhausted, offer to come over and clean her room/apartment for a couple hours or fix a meal that can be frozen and eaten over a week.

hope this was any use; just some ideas for the future as well!!!  Wink

my thoughts and prayers are with you all, as well as the many other sick and suffering craftsters and their families out there!

Thank you so much everyone, once again. It means a lot to me that craftsters care!

We've been sending her a package of some sort every week or so. And I finally finished the hat (see link on the first page of this thread). Thank you all for your kind words and advice. I had no idea I could knit one for her!
