Short Row Hat by Veronik Avery

You've seen this hat a couple of times on Craftster already, but it's been a while since I posted so I thought I would add mine to the mix.



And, I'm a "nubbin" kind of gal, so I went ahead and followed the pattern to finish the top:


Project: Short Row Hat (pdf), by Veronik Avery from Winter 2005 Interweave Knits.
Yarn: Faith in colorway A-50, by AmiAmi, distributed by Ami-Itoya
Needles: Takumi bamboo straights, 7US (4.5mm)

yes, how difficult was the hat? i'd love to try it but i am a novice. is there a pattern link kicking around?

Thanks for the compliments!  The hat wasn't difficult, but I've used short rows in a couple of other projects, so I was familiar with the concepts. I tried knitting the hat about a year ago and struggled with it.  If you try it, just follow the pattern and keep knitting - it will look strange at first, but once you get going it will become clear where the pattern is going.

The look similar to entrelac (link), which is how the Danica scarf (link) is made, but this pattern actually uses short rows. The advantage is that you don't have to pick up stitches, which some people don't like to do.
