So if you like reading international charts, this is the crochet book for you.  I picked it up at a real life japanese bookstore.  I was relieved to find that it wasn't that much more expensive than YesAsia. ISBN 4529041751

It has 300 (!) crochet patterns and an excellent section in the back describing each symbol with illustrated directions.
Here is the YesAsia link to the book: http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-j/section-books/pid-1004108290/

pretty cool. I didn't know many books were published with crochet charts. They aren't very common.

I can't find crochet charts very often, that's why I splurged on this book.

I already have a book with charts and I love it, so of course I had to add it to my collection. And, I don't even care if they have many similarities- it's just cool that it is in Japanese! I was explaining to a student the pattern of a granny square and I started sketching it out using symbols-it just came naturally-symbols make more sense to me sometimes than trying to decipher "crochet code!"

Thanks for the info and the link!

Yeah!  Why the heck don't they ever just add the chart to books?  It makes so much more sense that way.

They do this a lot with knitting, but it's more like a cross-stitch chart with a few squiggles for cables. lol. I'm right there with ya Trifarina. Symbols make more sense sometimes.

Cool!  I'll look for it in San Francisco Japantown.  I love crochet charts; usually skip the written instructions, which are so prone to errors, and go straight to the chart if it's there.

What types of patterns does it have in there? Any amigurumi in there?

There will always be people who say mean words  because you are different, and sometimes their minds cannot be changed. There are many more people who do not judge others based on how they look or where they are from. THOSE are the people whose WORDS truly matter.

No amigurumi or projects, just stitch patterns.  I was asked to take my book pics down because of copyright considerations, but I can't be held responsible if you go look at my Flickr photos by linking through my signature below   Wink
