This was a dress I made this past summer from sheets I found in the Target clearance section!  Ever year Target dedicates a section of their housewares department to inexpensive "dorm room" sheets, bedspreads, lamps, et cetera.  Last years theme was a bit grittier with numerous graffitti and cityscape prints.

The bodice of the dress was actually a pillowcase which I acquired for the low, low price of $3.00 (for two mind you)!  And the skirt part was from a full-sized sheet set for $6.00 (I STILL have fabric left over after using this fabric for a number of projects).

Thanks everyone!  It is perhaps a bit too "vintage-y" but there is nothing like a circle skirt on a hot summer day!  Plus it just fun to "swoosh" around and spin in.

I LOVE the building print on the front and back. And your cat is adorable too, haha.

Oh my gosh! That's so not from a sheet! That is a really great creation of a dress! I love the full(?) skirt and the New York City theme. That dress sets the standard for cheap chic sewing!

Thanks for the kind words!  Yes, that is the pattern I used with some minor modifications (it seems like I slightly tweak every pattern I have).  I am about 5 feet 8 inches tall but the pattern, as drafted, would have been mid-calf!  I thought the mid-calf length was just too much so I cut off about 6 inches from the hem.

Also, rather than hemming this ENORMOUS circle skirt with a machine blind hem or - worse yet - hand sewing it I made matching bias binding and enclosed the edge with that.

I also included pockets, which the original pattern did not include

I just love this pattern because it is incredibly simple and provides (almost) instant gratification!  When I am getting bored with a more complicated sewing project I usually will whip up one of these dresses.

It is amazing how different it can look depending upon the fabric choices too.
