I'm quite interested in this. Has anyone tried these? I read that you would need matcha powder. We have a bunch of Asian markets in my area so buying the stuff wouldn't be a big deal. HOWEVER... I have 2 big containers of the Lipton Green Tea with honey and lemon powder to use...

::taps chin::

Anyone want to try this with me and share their results?

Green Tea Cupcakes
Makes 12

1 stick butter/ margarine
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup green tea
~ 1 tablespoon green tea powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon milk

Preheat oven to 350F
Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs. Mix. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and green tea powder together. Mix flour with the butter mixture, alternating with the tea and milk. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full. Stick into oven and bake 25 minutes

Optional:
Whipped Cream Topping
1 pint heavy whipping cream
1/2 tsp unflavored gelatin
1 tablespoon water
Powdered sugar
Green tea powder

In saucepan, mix gelatin with water. When gelatin is soft, stir over medium heat until gelatin is dissolved. Let cool, but don't let it harden!

Whip cream with electric mixer until soft peaks form. Pour in gelatin slowly while still whipping it. This stabilizes the cream. Add sugar and tea powder to taste. If you want the color but not all the taste of the tea, add 1 drop green food coloring, 2 drops yellow.

This is the pic of the results online

I was just looking for a green tea cake recipe! All the ones I found sounded really bad.. one even asked for 1 cup of oil! Eck! I will try this recipe soon. Hopefully it's good enough that I can make a cake with it. Thanks! I'll post once I make, share your results too.

I made them! They taste really good. The cook time was perfect and the insides were soft and moist while the top had a nice crust. The flavor was not too strong, I think it was just right. The color was green on top but it was brown on the inside! Weird. I didn't make the frosting but I mixed green tea powder into store bought cream cheese flavored frosting and that was yummy. The cupcake by itself isn't overly sweet. The recipe makes exactly 12 perfect cupcakes.

Quite tasty but odd. Mine tasted like cornbread but had a green tea after taste. I added a green frosting and my sis let me take a pic of her enjoying them ((  =)  )) but they didnt load. These did...

These are the teas I used.

Here are mine, I realized they're not green either. I used the Japanese green tea powder. I think it's spelled maccha. It's quite expensive because it comes from Japan. It's a really dark green powder. For the tea I used a regular random green tea bag. They were really yummy, all gone now. =(

Hehe. Thanks for the fix. I was kinda too lazy to figure out why they didnt auto hyperlink. Ive done it before but it was too much after a night of baking ::whew. wipes brow::  Haha. After those, I made a yellow cake ((cause I didnt want to throw out the frosting)), I made chocolate cupcakes and took a stab at fortune cookies. I think I was up until 1 just baking. Then there was the aspect of cleaning up...

Mine didnt turn out green cause I didnt use the real maccha powder. ((refer to pic)) I think I only got it as an aftertaste because I made the green tea really strong. My brother said they'd be good as a cute afternoon snack with friends and some sushi.

I LOVE this recipe. I think I should invest in some real green tea powder now. heh

Me and my sister tried our hand at these
it was, well, interesting...
no pics yet but I'll post them!
we only had enough batter for 9 and the gelatin made the icing curdle and smell like poo...
so we made new icing!
and we used green food colouring to make them greener
