I love making these quick pincushions, all my sewing friends got one last year for Christmas. Thought I would share my pattern with you I would love to see any that you make!
2- 3 1/2 inch squares
scrap of felt
beads for eyes (optional, I left mine off because I organized the craft room and lost the bead box)
scraps of polyfil for stuffing (wool works great too and keeps needles and pins from rusting)
Start by taking your two squares and laying them right sides together and drawing a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite:
Sew 1/4 inch from drawn line on both sides:
Cut apart on line:
Next cut beak and comb from felt (I laid mine on my ruler so you could use that for a scale):
Lay beak and comb according to the picture on one square. Make sure you use the same placement otherwise your chickens head will be on backwards. Lay them on the color you want to be the head, the other color will be his tushy:
Next lay the other square on top, making sure to match colors and sewing lines. Sew from bottom of head color towards the beak catching beak in seam, turn and sew down comb, catching comb in stitching, turn and sew down one inch on hiney color, backstitch so your stitches don't pull out when you turn it. Then leave 2 inch opening and sew one more inch to the bottom, backstitching to secure stitches.
Next, take the long side that you left unsewn and bring it up until the seams match and sew across the entire bottom.
Turn chicken through small hole left in side and stuff with polyfil
Slipstitch opening shut using matching thread
Admire your chicken on her clutch of eggs:
