I'm a military wife and for our ball last year I wanted to stand out among the crowd, being a tiny little thing that's often hard to do so I took to work and made this dress for me to wear.

Bought the pattern for $1 during one of Joann's sales (some simplicity one if I remember right) and some fabric (the black is actually shot with olive green and it is a stretch knit picked up for $1 a yard, and the camo is a netting that is used by hunters to cover their faces I picked it up for $2.44 a yard, total dress cost was under $15.  Shoes (if you can see them) were modified with some camo fabric (1/2 yard at $3 a yard) and a can of 3M headliner glue.

I didn't have to worry at all at the ball, there was no one else dressed anything like me lol!  This year, its comicstrip fabric for my gown, will post pics of it soon.

The dress is really beautiful.  I love the camo netting -- it really gives the dress flair.  What did you do with it after the ball?

This dress is beautiful!

I always love to hear about how people got all the supplies and made something really cheap!
Because when you got there I bet people were like " OH I love your dress!" and I would have been thinking yep and I paid almost nothing and you probably paid $120 for that.

And when it comes to making your own formal dress, you know that nobody is gonna have the exact same thing!

I'm an Army wife (and a vet) and I totally wish I had thought of that for our ball!  That is great!

I love my hubby, but the Army doesn't pay enough for my crafty habit!

it's so glamourus. I sell at gun shows and the guys there always buy more if the girls look pretty in camo. may need to try a variation of this. Smiley

I have a bunch of vintage linens for trade. Looking for neat halloween fabrics, day of the dead stuff, star wars stuff.

Beautiful! You did a great job! But I'm sure it's MORE beautiful since it's in jungle camo as opposed to desert camo!  The flounces are particularly wonderful.

(Now, DESERT camo might be cool as a wedding dress  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes )

I made (with help!) a prom dress when I was in high school (um...9 years ago! OMG! I am getting up there!) and somebody had a dress on that looked identical!!!!! I thought of this cause you said nobody could have one like it. I was pissed cause I was a little sophomore and she was this cool senior who was mad at me for looking like her and didn't grasp the fact that I had MADE mine.

okay done with my random Tuesday rant.
