If you are in the US, at the grocery store, look with the BBQ stuff...sauce & charcoal. That's where they keep them where I live.

Thanks, amaryllisroze! I just checked there in my regular grocery store and they didn't have the small boxes. But at least I know where to check in all of the other grocery stores!

I got some matchboxes in the housewares department at the  dollar store-they're a bit smaller than the measurements Kat gave but its really amazing how much tiny stuff you can get in there.

It doesn't seem like much room, does it?  But you can stuff and stuff and stuff and stuff.

I got my matchboxes at the grocery store in the "hardware" section -- where all the nuts and bolts and twine and lightbulbs and things like that are.

Thanks for posting the pic! Now, I'm revising my thinking about what to put in the box...I like how you went with a theme...

The swap I did was themed -- it was a "festive" swap -- we were supposed to go with some sort of winter holiday theme.  Themes are fun, but I don't think it's required.

Bought my matchboxes tonight! I'm going to get them stuffed now and make a few changes depending on my partners' preferences so that IF I go and have a baby, DH can drop them in the mail for me.

is this nesting for craftster mommy to be's?? Grin
Yes, I keep re-organizing my craft room and the rest of my house is a disaster.

There is a company called Martha's Miniatures out of Illinois that have the best and cutest little pewter items that can be painted.  They're actually to 1/12 scale (most dollhouses scale) and they are very realistic.  They have little artist tubes, boots, fruits...you name it.  I can't find their website but I KNOW I have an order catalog somewhere.  I'll keep looking to see if they have a site address or something.  I think this would just be perfect for everyone but wish me luck finding ANY info on them.  I remember trying this before.  I remember like 7 years ago the artist tube costing in the $1.50 range unpainted so I'm not sure about the prices.  I'll let you know if I find anything.  If someone else does find something  PLEASE let us know.   Cheesy

Doll house type stuff would be perfect for this, especially for people who make earrings a lot!

I was picturing a bigger matchbox that holds hundreds, not the itty bitty ones. So we're talking the tiny ones. I see...

That's what I thought too, those big awesome matchboxes.

For the supply swap, there would be no challenge in a big matchbox!  The fun of this is to see how much you can get into an itty bitty teeny weeny matchbox!
