I learned to crochet a long time ago and I only crocheted hats, pencilcases and scarves. But last week I came with the idea of crochet a plant but I didn't know what plant I can crochet, so I was thinking and I came out with the idea of crochet a cactus, because i really like cactus, so I come with this:

I don't know if anybody here has made anything like this, but I searched and I didn't find any.
I make the pattern myself and I used 4mm hook and green acrylic yarn.
I hope you like it.
Comments would be apreciated Smiley

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english Wink

Edit: Pattern on page 2!!

That looks really cute.  With one more arm on it, eyes and an "o" mouth, it would look just like a Cactoid in the Final Fantasy games.

oh so cute! I agree, this would look precious with a face or as a pin cushion. You could even put him in a tiny plant pot and weigh it down with sand. good job!

What a lovely Saguaro Cactus!  (I happen to live in the Sonoran Desert, the only place in the world where Saguaros are (naturally) found.)  It's very cute - although at first not-really-paying-attention glance it looked like some kind of mitten sculpture!  ICLH!!!

I'm sorry for be too late, but here is the pattern:

Materials:
- Crochet hook
- Yarn
- Stitch marker
- Something to put inside the cactus (fill up(?))

Pattern:
Ch 20
1- Sc 6 rows
2- 2Sc in each St for 5 next stitches, Sc next 15 St
3- 2Sc in each St for next 10 st, sc next 15 st.
4- Sc 1 row
5- Sc next 5 St and put a stitch marker in this stitch, Sc 10 St and go to the stitch marker to make a little tube, like this:

(take of the stitch marker)

6- In the little tube Sc 4 rows
7- Sc 2, sc2tog for 1 row
8- Sc1, Sc2tog for 1 row
9- Close the branch, so you'll have:

10- Make this at the end of the branch, where it joins with the other tube and Sc 2:

11- Continue making the tube until your desire lenght.
12- Sc 3, Sc2tog for 1 row
13- Sc2, Sc2tog for 1 row
14- Sc1, Sc2tog for 1 row
15- Finish and close.

Now, you've got the cactus, fill it with cotton or something like this and turn to the hole:

Start crocheting to close it:

1- Sc 1 row
2- Sc2tog to the end and close

And that's it Smiley. I have to say that if the cactus doesn't stay up, you can sew in the finish so the base will be strong.

I added eyes and mouth Wink.
If you don't understand the pattern, please say to me and I'll help you.
I hope all is correct, that's my first crochet pattern.

Be happy!!

I'm so happy that you like my cactus Smiley. I'll love to see your results. I think that i forgot to say that the cactus can be made in a lo of sizes, when you got the general idea with the pattern, you can change it whatever you want and I'll love to see your changes Smiley.
Now I'm planing to make one cactus like this:

But with a red flowe in the top. I'll post the result when i finish it Smiley
