I made this for my brother; we're doing a super-late Christmas this weekend. I didn't use a pattern, but was inspired by this cute knit meatwad hat: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=68418.0
The face is really sloppy, I tried to do tapestry crochet but it looked terrible, so I just sewed a terribly sloppy yarn face on after I did the hat.

I had too much fun making different shapes out of him!!  Please excuse the kitchen floor/background even though I guess that's his natural habitat. Wink

I'm definitely going to make a little stuffed meatwad sometime since I have all this frickin' brown yarn now.

wow, thanks for all the lovely comments!!! I'm glad meatwad still has a following, haha, I love him Cheesy

my brother loved it, and despite my paranoia had absolutely nothing critical to say about it, even the "sloppy face" - so I guess it's really not sloppy!

oh and, Elphalba, my brother is 30 and wore it just about the whole rest of the day and claims the rest of his 30something friends are all going to be jealous and demand identical hats. lol!

man, now that he's gone off to my brother though,  I miss smooshing his meaty little yarn face...must make a little stuffy......must!!! Wink

I really shouldn't draw The Boy's attention to anything I see on Craftster... I've just been commissioned to make a Meatwad hat...

After I finish the WoW quest hat (black hat with large yellow question mark) I guess...

May I prevail upon you for a pattern? Or at least some basic dimensions and the stitches you used? I want to make this but I don't think I'm very good at doing it from a photo and my best friend needs one in the worst possible way...

I didn't really use one...I just started crocheting a circle, in single crochet, and increasing each round, until it got big enough to fit my brother's massive head. then just crocheted in the round, the same # of rows until it was "tall" enough. I can't remember any specifics Sad
If you need a pattern though, something like this http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/cpatt01.htm would probably work, just a plain beanie. I just added the face with yarn after I was done.

Can you at least tell me what yarn it is? I think that color is just about as close to meatwad colored as can be. And it looks like it might actually be warm. Is it? Has your brother given you any reviewing of real world use? I'm curious. Thanks again for posting it and telling me how you did it!

Can you at least tell me what yarn it is?

sure Smiley I used Lion Brand Wool Ease in Paprika - http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1922239816.html

*But* I had also considered these two:
http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1922208662.html
http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1922238947.html
They had a much "meatier" texture. The only reason I didn't use one of them is because I thought it might be too bulky, and I don't know if he'd go for bulky. They would be quicker, though, and probably warmer.

And it looks like it might actually be warm. Is it? Has your brother given you any reviewing of real world use?

He says its warm, and also claims to wear it to work - he's a bartender so I wouldn't  put it past him. he wore it the whole day I gave it to him. Other than that I don't really know, he lives several thousand miles away but he did really enjoy it when I gave it to him.
