I'm not sure how they worked it, but I like the idea of them all being in the mail at the same time. I'm weird like that, I guess.  Smiley

I think I was just kind of assuming that's what we would do....

Girls? What do you all think?

I can imagine two different kinds of problems with sending early.

1) It might get confusing to track things.  If book X got sent early, it might get sent early again and again, so it could be on round 4 while the other books were still on round 2.

2) The books might get jammed up.  If book Y got sent early, person A might have book Y and Z at the same time, then they might end up sending them together (book Y on time and book Z early) to the next person, who might get confused about which to work on or overwhelmed.

I vote for us all sending at roughly the same time.  Maybe the send date +/- 1 day so that there's a 3 day window for getting to the post office.

Are we really going to wait until the very end for a gallery?  I want to see people's covers! (I know I'll see them all eventually, but I'm impatient).

Sounds like a plan to send them all on the same date. Cheesy

What's the harm of posting covers? hehe. I can't wait to see them!

My cover is done, and sitting right here in the photobucket box next to me. (I promised phizzychick a preview.  Cool)

I'm having a lot of trouble with my cover.  I've never actually made any sort of art bigger than an ATC.  I'm having trouble scaling up.  I've decided on colors for it though -- brown and pink.   And I have a picture to use as the focal point.  Now I just need to get brave enough to put it all together!  I keep telling myself that I just need to look in one more magazine first....

I've hardly even thought about my cover yet, to be honest....I just have no idea what I want to do with it.  Undecided

Hello ladies - Stephen here, who got the ball rolling on the UK Journal swap.  There's a few things I found along the way which might be useful for you - and actually some of you are MUCH more experienced in this sort of thing than I am!

Early sendouts are never a problem IF you PM the recipient first and check it's OK with them, and then tell your organiser when you've sent - you're only tracking 6 books, after all.  Late sendouts are the ones which cause problems, especially when you guys are sending books around a country 40 times as big as the UK!  (UK = Wyoming in area)

People are likely to use all sorts of media on your pages, and thick paper copes with that a lot better than thin - I struggled with the thin paper in a couple of the journals that came around, but did resort to gluing two pages back to back in one journal that had many, many pages.

Ring binders open nice and flat, but the spiral cuts your collage in two visually.  Glue-only bindings, like watercolour pads, split open along the join and cause other problems.  Sewn bindings don't do either of these, but are more difficult to construct or alter afterwards.  So you choose!

When you have a diverse group of artists, you will find that scale is an issue - I prefer to work large, as I usually work for the stage, and some of the journals that came round were pretty tiny - but if you take that as a challenge rather than as a defeat you can have a lot of fun - I actually think one of my best spreads was in a little tiny journal.

So have fun and get back to me if any of that was unclear.

Thanks, Stephen! That was some great advice. We are all eagerly awaiting your gallery.  Smiley

And, I was just trying to think of a scheme where we could have a UK-US journal swap where all the books could get sent overseas once, then all around, and then back through the US, and vice versa. We could try a merge. We'd have to have the same number of US and UK swappers, but I think it could work.

When we finish up with this one, we'll all have to talk.  Grin
