Thanks for the good thoughts.  At this point I'm thinking of canceling my September vacation to Puerto Rico.  There will probably be a hurricane.

Whoa.  That would be amazing.

The cover was a huge amount of work, and it ended up nothing like I anticipated.  I was really pleased with it though.  I started with this collage, for which I intentionally used neutral, brown, and pink papers that seemed warm (and a letter from my accountant, which amused me hugely).  I was also careful to use texts in languages that use letters (like Greek, Hebrew, English, Russian, etc.) and to not use texts that use ideograms (like Chinese) since the theme was letters and numbers.  I also sprinkled in a lot of printed and handwritten numbers.


Well, that's one of the two covers, but the other one was just like it.  Then I painted that brown, sanded it and coated it with gel medium.  Then red, sanded, gel medium.  Then blue, sanded, gel medium.  And so on, I don't remember how many coats, alternating cool and warm colors.  Ultimately the whole collage disappeared, except for the word "canceled" on the front, which I thought was really cool (because it was like the rest of the collage got canceled).  Then I coated it with future floor wax so that it would be glossy (and not sticky).  I was really pleased with the depth it had when it was done.  It had a white spiral ring binding, which didn't look right, so I removed that.  I'll take it to Kinko's when I get it back and get a black spiral ring binding put on -- assuming you all haven't done anything to prevent that!  If you have, I'll just leave the binder rings on it, and maybe add a bunch more so that it's all ringy and kinda' industrial.
