(I couldn't resist the pun, sorry.)

I made a hat from a string of Christmas lights.  It is, in fact, crocheted, even though it looks rather like I just pulled the lights out of the box and dropped them on my head.

If you're interested in my account of the hat's creation, the whole saga can be read here.

Just gotta ask - did you use a traditional hook and, if so, what size?

This a really cool idea, although I admit it does look a lot like you dumped my light bin on your head.  Smiley  Are all of the lights lit? It looks like the ones on the top are, but the sides are kinda dark.  How many strings of lights is that?

I actually used a French curve with a thinnish curly bit on the end, since my largest hook was far too small.  It worked fairly well.

It's just one string of lights, with about half the bulbs burnt out, or possibly loosened into unlightability.  I don't think it enjoyed being crocheted.

Hmmm...I like it! I'm thinking it would make a neat holiday shirt or vest, too! Crochet a couple of rectangles, and attach them to a fabric base maybe (or maybe not!)...do they sell battery operated strands of lights? Otherwise, you'd have to stand in reach of an outlet every time you wore it!  Smiley

In fact, they do make battery operated lights.  However, they tend to be strings of 10 lights (I've seen sets designed to be used as decoration for sweatshirts). I wonder if you could make a set of battery operated lights from a small regular set if you used watch batteries (to keep the battery pack from being bigger than the garment).

Well, I just read the saga and now I have a very clean monitor.  Who knew that iced tea spat on the screen could clean so well?!
