How many different options do we need to offer in our sweatshop?

I can make:

*felted soap
*felted flowers
*felted headbands
*felted drawstring pouches
*felted drink coasters

Is this enough choice?

Yes that certainly is enough choice! Smiley I think we only need to suggest 3 different kinds of items that you could make multiples of easily. (2 small and 1 medium was the suggestion but it's not set in concrete yet)

Ok I have looked more closely at the original post and the suggestion was 2 small or 1 medium.

How do we define what is small or medium? Is it the amount of time spent crafting? (e.g. anything made in under an hour is small and anything which takes over an hour is medium)

yep thats right up to am hour is classed as small 1-2 hours is medium and over 2-3 hours is large.
so say a bracelet took 2 hours to make it would be a medium item.

but a pair of earrings would be small.

size is not the issues but the time taken to make the item.
another example would be , it takes me and hour to sew a beanie from polar fleece but to knit one would take 2-3 hours( I don't knit fast) so there for the sewn item would be small but the knitted would be med-large.
does that make sense?

The original sweat shoppes had a price limit, so your item if sold would have to be worth $7-$10 I like the size thing though it is a much better way of doing it.

Hi

it is so great to see an interest. love all the things and ideas people are putting forward. ecreations and enchanted_wool all those ideas are wonderful.

As this will be our first aussie sweat shop sampler swap we will have to work out what suits everyone to make. If people want to ask me or the group if what they are offering seems right thats a good idea.

So are people liking the idea of sending either a set/couple of smaller items or a medium sized item that would take 1-2 hrs to make, and retail around $10 roughly? That way people send 5 (1 set) or 10 (items) out and recieve the same number back. (fingers crossed australian post doesnt lose anything this round).

You can spend more time crafting but I guess its up to you. I am a slow crafter with kids to run after, so i dont time things but I generally try to be fair in what I have made to send and hope for the same back!
Hopefully the actual crafting cost and postage will be quite reasonable, and so fun to recieve some little goodies you can use yourself or stock up for birthdays and xmas.

My  new year resoloution is: I am going to try and be good this year and when i make something, write down how i did it so i dont forget, organize the how to instructions in a folder, jot down where i bought my supplies and make extra so i have some goodies done for presents/swaps. Hope I can manage to stick to it.  Wink

I will go start the sign up thread. This will be fun. I will make sign ups for say 2 weeks than send outs in february. I hope that suits, after the school madness is a good idea.

I have been out all day at portdouglas, very hot so a bit exhausted. Its a hard life chasing 2 little boys and a teenager  Tongue  I did buy some freshwater pearl strands at the market to make jewellery with so that was fun. we also had a swim at mossman gorge, a nice place.

back shortly with the link, cyndi

Haha!! Now there's an idea!! Grin If I won't be cutting into QueenofDiy's specialty, though! Cheesy

Forgot to add...I'm just along for the ride, as usual. You guys pick how we are going to do this, and I'll just go along with it. How's that for lazy?? Grin

And I love the IDEA of pearls, but I never seem to wear them, except this one awesome necklace I made, with these flat, green ones...SO gorgeous! Cheesy
