Macaroni letters!

I have heard somewhere about using alphabet macaroni to make letters/writing in polymer clay.  I've been searching for macaroni, and finally found some!  Does anyone have any helpful tips or hints for doing this?

I've heard you press the letters into the clay, bake them partway, pick the letters out, and then you can fill the letter-shaped space with some more clay and finish baking...  I'm excited to try it out!
