well I  finally sat  down to  do a tute  on this.  Cyndiq I hope it  makes  sense  but I know  you will make it  fabulous!!

OK  here we  go...   if it  does not  make sense  anyone  please  let me  know this is the  first time  doing this.   and  it  won't  take  long  at all I can  make them in about an hour  each.

Pursette

cut 2 ~~20 X  7 inch  STIFF  interfacing (no not plastic canvas)* see note below***
cut 2~~ 21 X 8 inch fabric in main color ( I used all one  color)
cut 2~~  29 X 16 inch  fabric for  pockets
cut 2 ~~ 21 inch pieces of elastic (I use 5/8 in wide)

you have  this
      2  of   those

that is the  main fabrics  and the  pockets  fabrics and  elastic.

put  stiff interfacing to the backside of the 21 X 8 inch  fabric  like this... ( I use hem tape to secure it but you can sew it if you prefer.)
here is  what  you have and  you can  set it  aside for  now.

Now  get you 2~~ 29 X 16 inch piece and fold in half long ways and iron flat like this....

Now  depending on how  wide  your  elastic is make a  casting (sp) like this to feed the  elastic thru.  suppose  my colors  weren't the best to  use  for this..  sorry.

do this to  both 29 X 16  inch  pieces.... you will have 2  like this..

now  when you feed   your  elastic thru when you get to the end  piece and the  fabric  match up  stitch to hold it in place like this...

finish  feeding the  elastic  thru and  stitch the  elastic in place at the  other  end.....ok now  you should have 2  like  this...

really sorry I did not  use 2 contrasting  colors.

place one of the  pocket pieces 3 3/4 inches from  the  top of the main piece like this.

Then pin in place where you want your  pockets .  I did  six on one piece and seven on the  other.  like this.
sorry for the  blurry shot there.

now  stitch  down the  side and  vertically  to  make the  pocket  sides.. it  will now  be  like  this.

here is  what the  back  will look like  right  now...
make  both  your  main  pieces  this  way.

Now,  here we  go  with more pins sorry I hate this  part too...
you have 2 pieces that  look the  same  basicly...  pleat and pin the  bottoms  of  your  pockets....
should  look like  this.

sew  across the  bottom...  now you have two piece of  main  that are pockets. like this.

take these 2 pieces and put them  right sides together.  stitch all the  way  around leaving a hole for turning.  like this.

now  you  can  turn it  right side out and  be  sure  you  poke  your  corners into shape.   close your  hole and  run a   stitch  across the  top  like  this to help it  keep  shape  while  washing.

if  you want  you can run that stitch all the  way around the edge  really  close to the  edge  if  you like......
congrads you have  done  one!

now  that  you can see the  size  of  mine  you may  want to  shorten  your  main piece  by a few  inches if  you prefer.  be  sure  you show  off your  work!!

******EDIT******

you can  cut  your  pieces  shorter becuase this makes for a  tall  purset      like  maybe a 20 X 6 or even 5  if you need it  shorter...   **********

thank you so much for this tutorial! I think I love you- Smiley Wink.

I must blog about this so others can make one of these. I had thought about buying one of these but your is MUCH nicer than the store bought ones. Great idea about using the book light. Even a mini flashlight attached to the pursette would work.

Thanks again!

hi jloveg, do you have to pull the elastics before stitch it on? or just pull thru, as in one straight pcs and stitch at the end?
