Is it a bad idea to use acrylic or other paints not made for walls on walls?? I want to paint some stencils and was wondering if I could get away with using craft paints.

You certainly can use craft paints on the wall.  You might consider prepping your wall in terms of making sure it isn't too dirty etc.   One other consideration is the type of wall paint you are painting over, the more glossy the less porous, which means the stenciling you do will be less durable.  Otherwise you should be fine~

it definitely should be fine. my dad used to paint walls for a living and for our cabin we're going to do a mural together in acrylics.
