I made this stocking for a personal swap I did (Stockings+Stuffers kind of deal) and she said she liked elephants, so I found this elephant quilt square (I will look for the link to the free pattern and post it when I find it).  I had never made a quilt square before and learned many a lesson in what not to do next time (not to mention I got a rotary cutter after) but it was a lot of fun, and I LOVE how it turned out.
