Those are pretty awesome morning_glory! But, if I may ask, what the heck are "Poi"?

Anyone thinking ahead to February and red already?

Yes, if I manage to make it, I will have a great red craft, actually made already on January... I want to buy fabric on Thursday. Maybe, if some scraps remain, I will turn them into a really February craft, who knows.

Since I was also wondering, what Poi is, I found this...

The frog and poi are so cool! I do poi myself, so it's nice to see someone else do poi too. Hehe. Now I want to make my own set! How did you make yours?

I had a really hard time coming up for something for this, as I cant currently afford buying new fabric (I am moving for my self ( Grin) , well + a boyfriend, but still thight economi at the moment). But, i finally realized: My sewing machine cover, that never got finished. Well now it is (you might already have seen it on miscellaneous, completed). But I am really happy with it, and I do have some fabric left so I am thinking of making the magic wallet thingy to. Until then, here is:

back (dont have a front picture for some reason, but its the same ecxpet the hickup on the ribbon)

hahaha....i guess i do need to explain a little better...poi are normally balls of fire you spin in patterns.....im sure you have seen fire dancers do it before....it is very pretty, and hypnotic....it is a hawaian dance i believe or that is where it started....they would dip strips of cloth on ropes into a fermented alcohol, and spin them....hence, spinning poi.
the ones i made are just for practice, so i can work up to the real thing....what i did to make them, was just...

cut sqaures of green clotht for the actuall balls....then started packing scrap fabric together till it was a nice ball shape, then took the polyester rope, and tyed it on the ball before i wrap it all in the green square....once it was wrapped i tyed it in with the rainbow wool yarn tight.....then on the other end of the rope i made a simple loop to put my fingers in.....then viola, practice poi....if any of that doesnt make sence, i can scan a picture of how i did it....

i love spinning these things....and when they whack me in the head (which they often do) it doesnt hurt.....

morning glory, wow, did that picture bring back memories!

My family and I travelled to Hawaii a few times when I was young (long, long ago) and on one trip I got a set of poi but had totally forgotten about them until I saw the picture of yours.  Now that led me to wonder where they might be and then I remembered that just last night I had seen a box in my storage room that I knew contained some stuff from my growing up years - so off I headed to the storage room, opened the box and there they were!  Thanks for the memories!
