I don't think anyone's reading the Knitalong thread anymore so here's a pic of my Paris Loop in Gedifra Cicco. I have enough to make another one in olive green. It's so comfy!

Why can't puffins eat pancakes instead?

Looks great!  Did you shorten yours at all?  I've made 3 so far, all different lengths and colors.  I went a little nuts when I found the Cicco in Germany, so I'll be "looping" for a good long while.  Everyione loves them...so comfortable, warm and fashionable, without the bulkiness of a poncho (but I love them too!).  I really do need to post a picture of my daughters and I in our "Loops".

it looks lovely, 615bride!  I am curious - what kind of things do you usually wear it with?  I am considering making one (in lieu of a poncho) but have this feeling I might not wear it...

Sorry I haven't checked this thread in a while. To answer the questions:

1) Yes, I shortened it a bit. Not too much. I might make it a bit longer next time.

2) I wear it with jeans and a t-shirt. I get lots of compliments on it which kind of surprises me...

I love my Loop! I'll probably the other 4 balls of the Cicco to make another one (olive green).

I've been eyeing the Paris Loop on Magknits.com for a while now but am so far unable to find a yarn shop that carried Gedifra Cicco. They've all had their closeouts on the yarn but in my local store and the online vendors I've checked.

Does anyone know of a vendor currently selling Gedifra Cicco (online of otherwise)?  If not, any suggestions for comparable yarn?

doodlebug - I was told the cicco was discontinued. I got some of mine on eBay (the red) and the rest at elann.com which had a few balls left. Good luck!

So maybe we should be talking about a good substitution for the Ciccio.

I found the details of Cicco at http://www.diamondyarn.com/cat.php?yarnID=839:

56% Wool, 35% Nylon/Polymide, 9% Acrylic

Polar Weight (Fancy Type)
50 grams and 100 meters per ball
7 mm ~ 10 1/2 or 11 US needle size
YARN GAUGE: approx. 4 in x 4 in knit square = 18 rows and 11 stitches

FYI, none of the online stores linked to by the diamond yarn site carry Cicco, so don't bother looking. I just searched eBay, too, and no Cicco is offered at present.

Does anyone have a comparable yarn suggestion for the Paris Loop project? Otherwise we'll all have to flood Gedifra with letters begging for the return of Cicco!

The cicco is a thick and thin yarn meaning it's really skinny for a few centimeters and then thcker for a few, etc. I will say I tried the Berocco Softy (also thck and thin) but it did not work well so avoid that. I saw on someone's blog that they used Lion's Brand Homespun....

can I ask what went wrong with the Berocco Softy?  I had settled on using that for my Paris Loop...  just curious...

Gloriana - I found the Berocco Softy to be too thin on the size 15 needles. I started with size 15 because that's the biggest in my Denise set but you're supposed to use 17s. It came out very loose and floppy with the Softy so I stopped and hunted down the Cicco. You might have better luck than I did but it didn't work for me. Post a pic if it works out. I loved the feel of the Softy....

615bride - I decided you were right about the Softy - so I'm going with Crystal Palace Musique.  We'll see how it goes!

615bride - just out of curiosity - did you block your Loop?  Mine is done but the knit portions of it look like they're a little diagonal.  The instructions don't say to block, so I'm just wondering if you did or not.  It's pretty dang cute - I will post a picture of it soon.

So lovely, and yes, a great answer to the bulky, shapeless ponchos that all the teens are sporting on Bloor and Queen West these days.

Question - has anyone tried to do the Loop on straight needles instead of circulars?

gloriana - no blocking for mine. Just threw it on!

katy - I think there were a few on the paris loopo knitalong that worked this on straights... Not sure of the details though....
