gotta download the pics off my camera and then I'll be able to show ya'll what I just made this morning.

I loved this challenge - gave me a chance to make something I actually needed! (A proper bag to hold the EpiPen for my very allergic son.)

Here's a little slideshow of my attempt at pics while making this:

Here's a pic of the finished traffic sign purse:

Here's a pic of the inside - showing the pocket, holding the EpiPen.  Smiley

I went to:

and printed out the image for:  Emergency Medical Services and used tracing paper to get it transferred to my fabric.

Used Fabric paint for the snake/rod emblem.  Some left over diaper twill for the white part, and some left over blue fabric from the stockings I made for the boys for Christmas.

It was my first attempt at embroidery and you can tell, but hey, the bag is usable.  I figure even though it's kind of a stitch and botch, it's still entertaining and useful to me, so I thought I'd share.

Please be gentle with me.  I'm new at this sewing stuff and don't have patterns - so it takes me a LONG time to figure out how to make what I want.

Oh, my proud moment on this bag - I figured out how to sew pleats on the bottom of the pocket, and then used some leftover diaper elastic in a casing for the top part of the pocket.  Looks pretty nice, Ithink.  (at least for a first attempt at a pocket.  LOL)

It may not be a true interpretation of a traffic sign - the interfacing isn't holding as stiff as I was hoping, but the idea is there at least.  Smiley

Oh, if anyone knows how to make slideshows show up on these boards, pls let me know - I am using photobucket.

Ooh. What a neat idea, using traffic signs! (And useful for your son! - I didn't know exactly what that sign stood for before, either.).

Thanks for the link to the sign site! (I think I need to use it for some crafty goodness Cheesy)

i know my bag isn't as nice as the watermelon and lime or bowling ball, football, or wow that tv!, but it was something needed and this was good excuse to experiment.

you, know what?!

I'm STILL using this bag and it's come in VERY handy!!  Medical people recognize the symbol on front and know it's for emergency use.

it also ended up being big enough to hold a sippy cup, snack cup, and cloth diaper and 2 washcloths, along with a bag for dirty diaper.  PERFECT for sunday school !  Smiley
