Whats the difference between normal butter and 'sweet butter' ? can I use normal butter? And if not, where can I get sweet butter?

Sweet Cream butter.

Probably a bit different than salted, but maybe not. Go to Walmart. They have everything.

Well, I did it.  (actually, my husband and I did it)  We made fortune cookies.  They came out pretty good.  The tast is right, we just couldn't get them to stay folded nice and neat.  Oh well.  It was a good adventure anyway.

I also wanted to make a note about the Butter used.  Sweet Cream Butter is also know as "Unsalted Butter". I got mine at the local grocery.

wow they came out great! (better than mines anyway but i found out that the recipe i posted was actually for secret message cookies and there is a whole other recipe for fortune cookies heh....go figure!)

True story... when I was just a wee one I found a recipe book of my mother's that had a fortune cookie recipe in it. So my friend comes over and we both want to cook something... so out comes the fortune cookie recipe... we made the dough and heated it up properly, but then came the "folding" part, right? And of course you've got to fold them while they're still hot... so we pick 'em up off the baking sheet and try folding them but they were too hot, so they burned our fingers. So we decided to let them cool first and then try folding them. But of course, we waited too long letting them cool so they hardened and were litterally cemented to the baking sheet. Of course they're ruined now, and too add to all of it I'm mortified my mother is gonna come down and see that we've ruined her baking pan, so we try several methods of trying to get these hardened cookies off the pan, and eventually resort to scraping them off not with spatulas or knives, but intead with scissors. It was, needless to say, an adventure. Woodchick, yours turned out well, but too this day I think i'm better off not trying to make 'em. Thought I would share that.

When you fold them, Hold the top and then turn gently down the ends of the cookie while resting the middle against the edge of a glass.  Then, if you will stick them into a muffin tin after folding, they will cool off and hold their fortune cookie shapes.  They are really cute to make them bigger than normal and then package them in a Chinese take out container.
